Cool Travel Iceland measures due to COVID-19

Taking into consideration the spread of COVID-19, we at Cool Travel Iceland are doing everything we can to minimize the risk of infection on our tours, following the guidelines of our health authorities, so that you can enjoy your tours with an ease of mind. We are now taking bookings for 2021 for our private tours.

With this in mind, we have reviewed our tour operations with safety of our guests and employees. Below is what we are doing, and require you to do, to maintain yours and our guides safety:

  • No handshakes! Sorry! Limiting physical contact is an easy and effective way to minimise the risk of infection.
  • Maintain a 2 meter distance between you and others. At times this may not be possible, for instance at restaurants and activities. Where you cannot maintain 2 metres distance you will need to wear a mask.
  • We require you to comply with the requirement of wearing a mask when it is unavoidable to be within 2 metres of people from a different household. Please bring mask(s) if you have them, if not we can provide masks. Families and people who live in close proximity (couples for example) are fine to sit together within 2 metres and without a mask.
  • We have placed sanitising in the vehicle and we please ask that you sanitise your hands when entering and leaving the vehicle as well as practicing hand washing when possible throughout the day
  • All shared contact surfaces in the vehicle are cleaned with disinfectant after each tour as well as at various times during the day.

What can you do?

  • Keep at least 2 metre distance from others at all times possible. If this is not possible please wear a mask.
  • Bring a mask to wear. If you do not have a mask tell us before your tour and we can provide you with one.
  • Wearing gloves minimises your risk of infection when touching common surfaces throughout the day.
  • Wash your hands with soap and water, and use a disinfectant frequently. A disinfectant sanitiser is available in the vehicle.
  • Avoid shaking hands, hugs, and kisses. Smiles and waving are the trends of the year.
  • If you need to sneeze or cough, try to do it into your elbow or in a napkin.
  • Follow common guidelines for sanitation and measures to reduce spread of COVID-19 (WHO, CDC, UK NHS).

The driver

  • The driver shall be aware that he/she is exposed to possible COVID-19 infection while driving with passengers and shall do all he can to protect himself and his passengers from possible infection. If the distance cannot be guaranteed, the driver must wear a protective mask.
  • Learn about aseptic rules and encourage passengers to take care of their own proximity limits
  • Keep the front seat (passenger seat) empty as far as possible.
  • Do not carry sick passengers, ie. passengers with COVID-19 symptoms which are mainly these: fever, cold symptoms, cough, sore throat.
  • Ask people to leave luggage in the luggage compartment → dispose of luggage → disinfect hands before starting a trip or wear gloves if a passenger is in quarantine. If a passenger is healthy enough, it is best for him to unload his luggage in the luggage compartment and wash his hands afterwards.
  • At the destination, the driver sprays his hands before opening and closing the luggage compartment or wearing gloves if the passenger is in quarantine. If the passenger is healthy enough, it is best for him to remove himself from the luggage compartment and wash his hands before and after.
  • Cleans and disinfects the car after a trip according to instructions of the epidemiologist. Wear gloves or wash hands thoroughly afterwards.
  • If a driver is at risk, he / she should take special care to ensure his / her safety and follow the instructions to prevent transmission between him and the passengers. The driver should wear a protective mask and should not quarantine passengers unless he can ensure separation between himself and the passengers e.g. with partition and / or distance.

Individuals who are on their way to a quarantine (eg from an airport / port) may be transported, in which case the driver must take special precautions:

  1. Drivers and passengers must wear a protective mask that covers the nose and mouth where a distance of 2 meters between persons is not possible. Protective masks used outside healthcare must meet the requirements set out in the Workshop Agreement of the European Association of Standards (CEN).
  2. As parties in business operations, taxi drivers have a duty to ensure a.m. 2 meter distance between individuals. Excluded are people from the same family, people living in the same home, a group of friends / colleagues who have been and are in close contact.
  3. However, the proximity limit does not apply to children born in 2011 and later.
  4. Reduce the number of passengers by half, that is a four-seater car can carry two in the back seat with a vacant seat in between. A large car with a license for eight passengers carries a maximum of four passengers on their way to the quarantine. Excluded are people from the same family, people living in the same home, a group of friends / colleagues who have been and are in close contact.
  5. A driver who transports a passenger on their way to a quarantine should wear disposable gloves / protective masks for themselves and their passengers.

The car

  • Aseptic instructions should be affixed to the back of the seats so that they are visible to passengers.
  • Hand sanitizer, wipes and trash bags are always accessible to drivers and passengers.
  • Contactless payment method is available.
